Oliewenhuis Art Museum, a satellite of the National Museum, Bloemfontein, an agency of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, has a very active education programme offering a variety of activities with the aim of educating the general public about the art museum and South African art and artists.

Oliewenhuis Art Museum is proud to present a travelling Mobile Art Museum expanding the educational possibilities by visiting your school. The aim of the Mobile Art Museum is to assist Grade 8 to 12 Creative Art teachers, by presenting curriculum aligned lessons at their schools. Lesson plans are designed around selected artworks found in the Permanent Collection of Oliewenhuis Art Museum.

The Mobile Art Museum is fully equipped with all the resources to present a 30 – 40 minute well worked-out lesson aligned with the Creative Arts Curriculum.

• Colour and design theory.
• The formal elements of art.
• The formal analysis of an artwork.
• Gender politics and identity: What is identity and how is it explored in the South African Art world?
• How were South African artists influenced by African Art?
• Multimedia and new media: How do South African artists use new media to express concepts?
• Socio-political art and Resistance Art: How did these art movements emerge and what relevance do they have today?
• Art, craft and spiritual works mainly from South Africa: The vital importance of rural artists and their presence in South African Art collections today.
