On 18 December 2023 the National Museum welcomed a healthy active bee hive back in its displays. It is an observation hive that can be viewed from both sides with explanatory information panels surrounding the hive.
An observation hive offers many things to look for: to find the queen; see how the cells are being built; find a bee ‘dancing’ to tell the rest in the hive where to find food and much more.
The Bee Shop in Bloemfontein kindly donated the hive to the Museum.
