Oliewenhuis Art Museum is excited to announce that a very informative talk by Dolly Molefe will be presented on Friday, 17 February 2023 at 14:00. This thought provoking talk, “The resocialisation of the angry black woman: putting an end to the self-perpetuated cycle of oppression” aims to include different viewpoints to the current exhibition, Untold secrets and never-ending stories: the embodiment of women in war.
With her presentation Molefe offers insightful intriguing concepts and complexities associated with the predetermined bitterness of women due to recurring generational wounds of the past that influences the present. Molefe states that “these wounds are enforced by societal norms and expectations – and this just aggravates our anger”. The concept of wounds, emotional and physical, is a striking, coherent theme in the Untold secrets and never-ending stories: the embodiment of women in war exhibition. Molefe unpacks this concept of ‘wounds’ further and combined it with her own research that focuses on inherited wounds that is the result of the circulation of collective trauma, called the mother wound.
The intension is to contribute to the women’s socialisation script discourse by educating the community on how the mother wound, which primarily affects the female child, can be addressed when the cycle of oppression is broken by re-socialising the girl child. Women are not necessarily bitter or angry. They are merely suffering from internal wounds that emerge from sadness that turned into anger and frustration.
Dolly Molefe holds a BA Honours degree in Africa Studies and is currently completing a MA degree in Philosophy at the Department of Africa Studies. She is a passionate writer, educator, researcher and is also in process to qualify as a Life Coach Practitioner, NLP Practitioner & Corporate Coach Practitioner and Coach for Success.

Oliewenhuis Art museum is located at 16 Harry Smith Street, Bloemfontein and is open to the public from Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 17:00, and on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays between 09:00 and 16:00. Entrance is free and secure parking is available for visitors. A ramp at the entrance of the main entrance provides access for wheel chairs, while a lift provides access to the Permanent Collection display areas on the first floor.
